How can I deal with arrogance?

I live in a sober living facility, and my roommate is very hard to tolerate due to his arrogance. He really thinks he's the center of things. he talks down to people and consequently does not have alot of friends here.. but i live with the guy. i have asked to move to another room due to this behavior, but something inside tells me, i should not run from this, that i should stand up to this and deal with it. i just get tired of these mind games. i do have a strong personality myself, but i am more non-confrontational these days, since i am approaching my sunset years...60 years...thanks for reading...
